While we’re almost sure that the Xbox 720 will not be making an appearance at the upcoming E3 (almost because there’s still this teeny tiny hope within us that Microsoft will at least give some tiny details about it), that doesn’t mean Microsoft doesn’t have anything cool up its sleeves. If anything, making sure that the audience is captivated by their offerings in this year’s E3 will probably be a priority because all that hype and goodwill they end up generating could carry over to next year when they do launch the Xbox 720.
Today, we’ve received an update from Major Nelson, one of the most recognizable people working with the Microsoft’s Xbox Team, and he shares some news about Microsoft’s plans for E3:
On Monday, June 4th at 12:30p ET/9:30a PT we’ll kick off E3 2012 with the Xbox 360 Media Briefing. For the first time ever you’ll be able to watch the briefing streamed directly to your Xbox 360 over Xbox LIVE. In addition, Spike TV will also be airing the briefing live. If you are hanging out on Facebook, you’ll be able to watch the stream over there as well. Won’t be near your PC? Then point your mobile browser to Xbox.mobi where they’ll have a mobile version of the stream hosted.
The update from Major Nelson also states that aside from streaming it via your Xbox, you can view the event through the official Xbox website -- Xbox.com/e3. You can also participate in an interactive chat with fellow fans. This stream will be live, commercial free and will be hosted by Major Nelson and Julie Alexandria.
I think it’s an interesting move on Microsoft’s part to showcase the event via the Xbox. It’s a clear attempt to demonstrate the Xbox’s multimedia and entertainment capabilities, something we’ll probably be seeing more in its successor, the Xbox 720.
